This card for our son has gone through so many revisions that I think I need about a two week vacation. I've found another dp that I've fallen in love with (must go get more!). My "Rocky Mountains" dp from Hobby Lobby is actually photographed tree bark! Love it!!! I was trying to have it be that the whole train die would show, but now I'm pretty satisfied with the way it worked out. I used torn and cut layers of the tree bark paper backed with foam tape in places to give it some dimension. The smoke coming out of the smoke stack is in reality some polyester fiber fill that I pulled out of the big fat head pillow attached to one of our recliners (dh is concerned about me...but I'm really just being practical) because I'm out of my supply right now and didn't want to have to run to Joann's to get more during my moment of creativity. I've been unzipping that pillow and zipping it, and stuffing pounds of fiber fill into it (to keep it poofy), getting the (now adored) stupid fiber fill caught in the zipper and then wrestling to close the zipper, for a couple of years now. The stupid fiber fill has now found it's way into my heart. Anyway...the fiber fill was too white for me, not that noticeable. I remember seeing smoke coming out of steam trains....in old movies.....and it seems to me it was more gray. So anal as I am I used some black watercolor paint on it. That seemed to soot it up just enough to keep me happy. I originally had the actual scene in the center of the card and I accidently bumped it and now I think I like it better offset a bit. This was an adventure and some good therapy for me. Thanks for looking.

Lovely card and you had me laughing at the lengths you went to perfect it!! Your son is sure to enjoy this and if your husband is anything like mine, the story of how his mother made it ; )

Adventure? You call this an adventure? Sounds to me like you were derailed any number of times. OMGosh, your story is hilarious and your card is absolutely incredible. yikes, girl, there's apparently no stopping you or your creatively once you unleash it. "Holy Smokes" I had to laugh when I read about your zipping and unzipping that darn pillow what must have been a hundred times or more.
I love the way your mind works. I would guess if I were to stop by one day, I would thrilled with what's inside your home. I'm beginning to think maybe Ernie's on to something when he says "I'm concerned about you." I would be concerned about you too if I were there watching all your shenigans to get this card together. I think it's wonderfully creative and your story is a hoot. See what happens when you let your creativity get out of hand? Everything about your story and your card are simply amazing. No, really, it is pretty darn amazing someone could go to such lengths just to make a card. Hugs my friend.
